Over the years, I've bought several things at on-line auctions. I decided to try selling things in an auction (which I've never tried before). When I went to the last Philly show, Collector Connection had a booth set up with a preview of some of the things they were planning to list in their June Auction. I had brought a few things to use for trading and decided to take a chance and see what happened!
Scott Russell was the guy at the Collector Connection booth and he explained the procedure and patiently answered all my questions. Collector Connection has Non-Sport specific auctions twice a year and even does a live auction in July in Bethlehem, PA! Their website has a calendar.
There are lots of companies doing this - including MIle High, Memory Lane, REA and Heritage - links are at the bottom of the "Links" page (see top of this page). They differ in regards to fees and ending procedures. Usually there is a period at the end of the auction where bids are restructed to people who have previously bid on each item. The auction ends when no further bids are received as contrasted to eBay where the auction ends at a specific time. Some auction houses end an auction when the specific item has not received a bid for 15 minutes after a certain point. Some keep the entire auction going until no item in the entire auction has received a bid for 15 minutes. These last kind can go all night and end as late at 6 am or even later. I like the first kind much better and have "won" at midnight or 1 am.
